A radical change from our peaceful night sky, Cosmic Collisions presents the spectacular result of gravity pulling together planets, stars, and galaxies. Here are explosive encounters that ended the age of the dinosaurs and gave birth to new stars, but also created conditions essential for life on earth.
People have been worrying about cosmic collisions for a long time, but the field only gained scientific legitimacy in the 1980s when the extinction of the dinosaurs was pinned on a single strike of a comet or asteroid.
Now we have the assertion, based on a computer simulation by Australian engineer Michael Paine, that during the last 10,000 years, Earth was hit about 350 times by asteroids as large as the rock that wasted 2,000 square kilometers of Siberian forest in 1908.  That year an asteroid estimated at 50 meters across exploded above Tunguska, Siberia, blowing down trees across 2,000 square kilometers and killing a thousand reindeer, but apparently no people. The shock wave from the blast would have measured 5.0 on the Richter scale. An explosion of this magnitude would be capable of destroying a large metropolitan area, but due to the remoteness of the location no fatalities were documented. Because the stony object exploded in the atmosphere, there's no crater.
According to the simulation, during the next 10,000 years, cosmic junk could kill 13 million people, and perhaps cause wars, famines and general-purpose chaos.

GMO stands for genetically modified organism. This type of food isn't natural or organic since its genes have been artificially manipulated or added with genes from other species.
For the past few decades, biotech companies have been exploiting nature by mixing the genes of many different species. One of their goals is to create GMO foods that are more superior than non-GMOs. They believe that GMO foods are the answers to food shortages since they are more resistant. In some ways, biotech companies are right, but the problem is that they aren't being totally honest about how their GMO foods affect our health and environment.
If GMO foods are created in harmony with nature, they can help change the world into a better place. Unfortunately, the current techniques used by scientists to create genetically modified organisms are destructive to nature. Modern scientists can barely understand how gene works. Their ignorance combined with corporate greed is one of the main reasons why our health and environment are slowly being destroyed by GMO foods.
Studies done on GMO foods have revealed that they cause serious health problems in animals. Many of these animals died from birth defects, immune disorders, digestive problems, premature aging and cancer. Some of these animals even became sterile and therefore they couldn't have offspring. The most dangerous feature of genetically modified foods is their ability to cause damages to genes, which can lead to unforeseen consequences.
